FRIDAY, APRIL 1, 2022 SOME PERSONAL SUCCESS
OPENING COMMENT:
I don’t always share personal success stories, but I wanted to share this one.
I’ve been working at the Wesleyan Independent Living facility in Georgetown Texas since last September. I’ve been working as a Personal Care Assistant. You will also remember that I wanted to be a Life Coach. Yesterday, it was made official that I’m a part-time Life Coach for Williamson County. My current employer had suggested the position to me and wrote a letter of recommendation for me.
The number of people needing counseling and mentoring has been increasing exponentially since COVID began in 2020. Coupled with other factors such as Ukraine immigrants, Afghan immigrants, and economic factors like inflation, supply-chain woes, and depression I will be working part-time as a Life Coach for Williamson County.
Since I am officially retired, I will be working afternoons from 1:00 to 5:00 or twenty hours a week.. I will be on a salary scale at a much higher wage as compared to my Personal Care Assistant position, consistent with my professor's salary. My caseload will be four people on both Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday in a coaching capacity, and eight people on Thursday and Friday, (generally half-hour sessions).
Twice a month I will be part of a state-wide initiative program on the assimilation of Ukrainian and Afghanistan refugees into Texas society. I will be part of the Central Texas Immigration program with eight counties in central Texas.
This is a work in process and I was given permission to announce it in my blog, but a more formal announcement will be forthcoming. My boss in this new position, Dr. Suzanne Williams liked my combination of academy experience, mentoring (my two ebooks - Coaching and mentoring for College Students; and Rebooting: Creating the Career and Change You Seek impressed her), my profession that ‘Love Wins”, and my work as a personal care assistant seemed to make me an ideal candidate.
The possibility/probability exists of some professional travel to regional and national meetings.
(I’m still stunned and extremely happy)

MY PATIO GARDEN
So, we are starting the fourth month of the year today. April showers bring May flowers. The bluebonnets were a little slow in coming out, but are going wild. My patio containers are growing. My tomato plant - leftover from last year seems to be making a statement in terms of its growth. I’ve harvested Swiss Chard leaves for the last six weeks for salads and I should be cutting some spinach leaves soon. I have one planter that I have yet to fill. I am leaning towards some patio-type flowers - zinnias or marigolds.

After March, the weather seems to be a little less wild. There will still be tornadoes, and tornado alley moves north into Oklahoma and Kansas in early April and then into Kansas and Nebraska in later April.
Baseball season starts on April 7th. NCAA Men’s Basketball has two games tomorrow and then the championship game on Monday.
