 SUNDAY FUNDAY

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 9, 2022

WELCOME TO OCTOBER

STORIES:

One of my wife’s third graders was wearing a Fitbit watch, which prompted my wife to ask, “Are you tracking your steps?” “No,” said the little girl. “I wear this for Mommy so she can show Daddy when he gets home

At an event famous for giving out awards in bizarre categories, the emcee enthusiastically announces, “The next prize will go to the laziest person in the audience. If you think you qualify, raise your hand.” Everyone raises their hands except a middle-aged man who seems to show little interest. “Congratulations! You are the winner,” says the emcee to the man. “Your prize is this $100 bill!” Still showing no emotion, the man replies, “Would you mind coming over here and putting it in my pocket?”

I was waiting at a small train station when a man put up a sign regarding my train: “30-Minute Delay.” “What happened?” I asked. “The train went off the rails,” he said. “How long will that take to fix?” “Quite a few hours.” “So why put up a sign saying it would take 30 minutes?” “It’s the only sign we have.”

In his late 80s, my father-in-law went to the DMV to renew his driver’s license. At one point during the road test, he approached a four-way stop, looked to his left, and cruised straight through the stop sign. “Sir! You didn’t look to your right,” yelled the frightened inspector. My father-in-law calmly shook his head. “That’s my wife’s side to check.”

The fact that there’s a “Highway to Hell”, and only a “Stairway to Heaven” says a lot about anticipated traffic numbers.

I just ordered a life alert bracelet, so if I get a life, I’ll be notified

NATIONAL DAY

NATIONAL DEPRESSION SCREENING DAY - October 6, 2022 - National Today

I think all of us have known (or experienced) somebody with depression.  There is help with counseling and medications.  Unfortunately, there is a stigma about reaching out for help. If you know somebody (even a family member or friend), help encourage them to seek help.  (Yes, I’ve been there)

NATIONAL FORGIVENESS & HAPPINESS DAY - October 7, 2022 - National Today

As I’ve aged, I’ve learned to forgive.  Carrying a grudge just isn’t worth it - LOVE WINS (and Hate Loses).  (Note, I am NOT PERFECT - this problem raises its head too many times - and I sometimes have to have a short “pity party” to get over it!!!)

NATIONAL CHESS DAY - October 8, 2022 - National Today

I started playing chess in junior high school.  In high school, I started a chess club (yes, I was and still am a ‘nerd’).  I’ve competed in some tournaments (and didn’t do that well).

At the start of COVID, I played Bob (aka “Bobby Wayne”), and Vickie a few times.  (And, rarely successful!!!)

INTERNATIONAL BEER AND PIZZA DAY - October 9, 2022 - National Today

It seems like beer and pizza do go together.  I think Superbowl Sunday is the top day for pizza and beer.

NATIONAL CAKE DECORATING DAY - October 10, 2022 - National Today

I used to watch “Cake Boss” on the Food Network.  Some decorators can make truly amazing cakes!!!

I like wedding cake ((And, true confessions - I like frosting.).

Did you hear about the wedding of two antennas?  The wedding was so-so, but the reception was fantastic!!!!

NATIONAL SPREAD JOY DAY - October 11, 2022 - National Today

What a great day - I’ve been known to spread joy - sometimes when I enter a room, and sometimes when I leave a room!!!
