WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 22, 2023 - THANKSGIVING HYMNS

Tomorrow is THANKSGIVING.  It is a day to GIVE THANKS

In prior times, Thanksgiving was agricultural-based.  It was the end of the harvest season. Come, ye thankful people, come, raise the song of harvest home is an agricultural hymn - thanking God for the harvest.  

The hymns are just my selection for Thanksgiving.

1. ALL CREATURES OF OUR GOD AND KING

1 All creatures of our God and King
lift up your voice and with us sing
O praise Him! Alleluia!
Thou burning sun with golden beam,
thou silver moon with softer gleam,
O praise Him, O praise Him!
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

2 Thou rushing wind that art so strong,
ye clouds that sail in heav'n along,
O praise Him! Alleluia!
Thou rising morn, in praise rejoice,
ye lights of ev'ning find a voice!
O praise Him, O praise Him!
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

2. WE GATHER TOGETHER - (DUTCH SONG)

 We gather together to ask the Lord's blessing;
He chastens and hastens His will to make known;
the wicked oppressing now cease from distressing.
Sing praises to His name, He forgets not His own.

2 Beside us to guide us, our God with us joining,
ordaining, maintaining His kingdom divine;
so from the beginning the fight we were winning:
the Lord was at our side- the glory be Thine!

3. NOW THANK WE ALL OUR GOD

1 Now thank we all our God
with heart and hands and voices,
who wondrous things has done,
in whom his world rejoices;
who from our mothers' arms
has blessed us on our way
with countless gifts of love,
and still is ours today.

2 O may this bounteous God
through all our life be near us,
with ever-joyful hearts
and blessed peace to cheer us,
to keep us in his grace,
and guide us when perplexed,
and free us from all ills
of this world in the next.

4.  HOW GREAT THOU ART

Oh Lord, my God
When I, in awesome wonder
Consider all the worlds Thy hands have made
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder
Thy power throughout the universe displayed

Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art

5. COME YE THANKFUL PEOPLE COME

1 Come, ye thankful people, come,
raise the song of harvest home;
all is safely gathered in,
ere the winter storms begin.

God our Maker doth provide
for our wants to be supplied;
come to God's own temple, come,
raise the song of Harvest Home.

 Even so, Lord, quickly come,
bring thy final harvest home;
gather thou thy people in,
free from sorrow, free from sin,
there, forever purified,
in thy presence to abide;
come, with all thine angels, come,
raise the glorious harvest home.

6.  GIVE THANKS WITH A GRATEFUL HEART.

Give thanks with a grateful heart
Give thanks to the Holy One
Give thanks because He's given
Jesus Christ His Son

And now let the weak say I am strong
Let the poor say I am rich
Because of what the Lord has done for us

Yes, we have fewer farmers - but as we approach winter, we can still give thanks for God’s blessings.
