 SUNDAY FUNDAY

December 18, 2022

WARM-UP

Seven Days to Christmas Eve, Six Days to Christmas.

“Christmas is coming, the geese are getting fat, please to put a penny in an old man’s hat. 'If you haven't got a penny a ha'penny will do, if you haven't got a ha'penny, then God Bless you".(Old English song) [ha-penny - a half penny]

Are you traveling for Christmas?  Are you having some of your family at your house?  Do you have traditions and favorite foods for Christmas?

Have you ever had mincemeat pie? (I've been looking for mincemeat on the local shelves - but not there. I could order it, or maybe look at a specialty shop)

There are some interesting stories out there.  I remember a story about two brothers.  It seems like there was a pair of pants that one brother sent to his brother as a joke.  The next year he got it back but wrapped strangely.  It escalated to being inside a tractor tire one year and encased in concrete another year.

Or a fruit cake that got passed back and forth for several years.  (There is a thought that fruit cakes are not desirable but like the mincemeat, they can be quite tasty).

Do you go out caroling?  Do others come and carol you? Do you know the words to all the traditional Christmas Carols? Do you know all the verses? (A lot of them I do.)

I will miss TubaChristmas again this year. I volunteered to work at the senior living facility on Friday, December 23rd when about 200 tuba and baritone players descend on the Texas State Capitol.

A friend shared this with me:

“Hurt people hurt others, but luckily healed people heal others.  Safe people shelter others. Free spirits free others. Enlightened people illuminate others.  And love always wins. So shine your light of love on all who may cross your path in life, because what you do matters.”

DAILY HAPPINESS:

If you want to be happy, set a goal that commands your thoughts,
liberates your energy, and inspires your hopes.

Happiness is not something that should be pursued

as an end result. Happiness and being content

in life should be the starting point.

There is only one way to happiness and

that is to cease worrying about things

which are beyond the power of our will.

Doing what you like is freedom.

Liking what you do is happiness.

Happiness always looks small while you hold it
in your hands, but let it go, and you learn at once

how big and precious it is.

Since you get more joy out of giving joy to others,

you should put a good deal of thought into the

happiness that you are able to give.

Learn to let go.

That is the key to happiness.

How did the ornament get addicted to Christmas? He was hooked on trees.

Why was Santa’s little helper depressed? Because he had very low elf esteem.

Why did Frosty ask for a divorce? His wife was a total flake.

Why does Scrooge love reindeer so much? Because every single buck is dear to him!

What do you get when you cross a duck with Santa? A Christmas quacker.

What’s Santa’s favorite snack food? Crisp Pringles.

Why do mummies like Christmas so much? They’re into all the wrapping.

A while back I reminded myself that it isn't what I eat between Thanksgiving and New Year that makes me fat, it is what I eat between New Year and Thanksgiving. I'm thinking that might be wrong. I've been eating a lot - Christmas Parties, lunch with friends, and even cooking and baking too much!!!

There’s a freshness in Christmas and the Holidays. Maybe the cold wind blows the cobwebs out of our hearts and minds.  Maybe the long hours of darkness give us time to reflect on what is really valuable in our lives.

Whether you are celebrating the birth of a baby in Bethlehem years ago, the passing of the winter solstice and renewing your spirit, or resolving to make 2023 an amazing year, do have an amazing holiday season.  You can control only one person - yourself - set your thoughts on happiness, contentment, and ON LOVE!!!

LOVE WINS
