Sunday Funday - August 16, 2020
We are halfway through August. And, about five months of COVID-19!! There is some slightly good news - some vaccine trials look promising. Schools are starting - trying to do online or in the classroom or blended. College football looks like it won’t happen this year - or much in terms of sports.
Politics is moving on. We now know that the November election will be between Trump and Pence for the Republicans and Biden and Harris for the Democrats.
So, what is going on this week?
August 16, National Roller Coaster Day, National Rum Day, and National Tell-a-joke Day!!
August 18, National Fajita Day (I will celebrate this - I will cook boneless chicken breasts in the crockpot and then have some onions, peppers, sour cream, and other fixings)
August 19, National Aviation Day
August 19, National Potato Day
August 20, National Radio Day (I don’t have television. I do listen occasionally to radio in my car -NPR, classical music, and an easy listening station)
August 21, National Senior Citizen Day (okay - suggestion on how to celebrate this day? Should I take an extra nap today? Don’t walk as fast? Should I complain about aches and pains?)
August 22, National Tooth Fairy Day, National Take Your Cat to the Vet Day. (Maybe the tooth fairy can take the cat to the vet for you!!!)
(And, just an extra day ahead - August 24th - a birthday)
*****
So, what can you do for fun? What do you like to do? Does it take money? Go ahead and spend some money!!
Sunday Funday - this might be the time to do something that is MEMORABLE!!
This could be something that in five years you can look at your spouse or a friend and say “Do you remember than Sunday when we had the coronavirus where we <did something eccentric/exciting/out-of-the- ordinary>?”
Maybe you can’t do whatever this is today, but you can plan it. For a few years, I’ve thought about touring the “Painted Churches”. Maybe I can do that. There are a lot of Texas State Parks that I have not been to. Maybe I can go to Inner Space Caverns - which is walking distance from my apartment. Maybe I can get a tattoo? (I’m not sure I even want one, but thinking I need to do something extraordinary). I know of a small plane pilot - maybe I can purchase a ride over the Texas Hill Country? I loved my previous trip to Enchanted Rock - would I want to do that again? How about going to Lost Maples State Park or to Hamilton Pool?
Maybe by next week, I’ll have a report that I did something extraordinary this week!! My friends - this is life - not be endured - but to be embraced - loved - enjoyed - don’t let this day or this week go by as “just another week” - BUT a WEEK to remember for years to come!!!
