TUESDAY, JUNE 14, 2022, SLOTH

 TUESDAY, JUNE 14, 2022, SLOTH

(Also Flag Day - commemorating when Betsy Ross made the first American Flag)

SLOTH

Sloth definition: reluctance to work or make an effort; laziness.

“Sloth not only subverts the livelihood of the body, taking no care for its day-to-day provisions but also slows down the mind, halting its attention to matters of great importance. Sloth hinders man in his righteous undertakings and becomes a path to ruin.”

Oh, My:

“What is an example of the sloth sin?

“Sloth. One example of sloth is plagiarism. "In this Internet culture, cut and paste is so easy," said Franke. "And attributing sources is something students don't quite get so very often."

“Faculty must think about how to define plagiarism, model ethical values for students, and respond to violations of those values.

I don’t always cite my research and references in this daily blog.  Yes, it is laziness.  I like to get my blog written and move on.  I “think” (in other words, I’m not sure) that I give major citations and quotations (but I know I miss some).

Oh, My #2:

“taking no care for its day-to-day provisions”.

Before I started this blog post, I was preparing to get to exercise.  In most cases, I “know” I need to exercise, but I don’t “like” to exercise.

Exercise is a day-to-day provision of health for me.  I sit in my favorite chair for hours most days.  Idle, procrastinating, non-productive!!  I find ways to keep “busy” (daily crossword, Wordle, Words with Friends, Solitaire, Facebook, Twitter, and more.  By the end of the day, I say to myself - “Gee, I didn’t get my blog written today.  Gee, I didn’t pray today.  Gee, I played too much today.  Gee, I didn’t practice my tuba today.”

I’ve cut back on work for the summer (helping the seniors at the independent living facility).  So, I should be writing more, exercising more, practicing tuba more, meeting and loving friends more - and what do I do?  Spend hours wasting time.

Now some things are good for me.  Doing the crossword and some games keep me mentally sharp - but doing fifty games is just wasteful - and “slothful”!!!

I’m adding a new Post-It note to my door - “Am I using my time productively?” (I already have two notes there - “Be transformed by the renewing of your mind”, and “Who am I praying for today”).

I’m just cheating myself and my relationship with others (and to God) by being slothful!!!

OUCH!!!

*****

I’ll try better - starting today!!!

LOVE WINS!!!
