FRIDAY, JANUARY 20, 2023 - SPIRITUAL THOUGHTS - DO UNTO OTHERS
On Fridays, I generally write about spiritual things.
So - LOVE WINS simplistic views (Lots of this is a review):
The Greeks had three LOVE words -
Agape - This word was borrowed from the Greek word for “charity” or the “love of a parent for a child.” In biblical texts originally written in Greek, the word agape is used to connote any kind of selfless love, whether between human beings or between humans and God. Selfless love - unconditional love - perfect love
**
Phileo love is brotherly love. This type of love is most often shown within close friendships. This is a generous and affectionate love that seeks to make the other person happy with no expectation for the acts of kindness to be returned.
Phileo love is shown toward people we feel warm and affectionate to. This means that we do not show our enemies phileo love because we do not feel warm and affectionate toward them. However, God does call us to show agape love toward those individuals we dislike and clash with (Luke 6:28; Matthew 5:44). As we grow closer to God and experience more of His compassion, we may even experience phileo love toward people we are beginning to understand better.
Eros is sexual or passionate love.
*****
Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength, and love your neighbor as yourself
This is the highest, purest, Godlike love - agape. Supernatural love
*****
So - sure, Loving God with all my heart, soul, mind, and strength - that makes sense it is unconditional, perfect. GOD IS LOVE.
Okay, but do I have to love my neighbor with the same kind of perfect love? YUP!!!
LOVE WINS
LOVE TRANSFORMS
