THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 13, 2025 - GALENTINE’S DAY
Yes, it is National Galentine's Day
A couple of weeks ago, the Georgetown Fire Ants were discussing our (missed) Christmas Party - and how we were going to celebrate. Geri suggested we have a Galentine’s Party.
Okay, I can be pretty naive - and I thought “Gee that’s a cute name for the Fire Ants to get together - the day before Valentine’s Day. OOPS - it is a REAL THING!!!
Seemingly on the television show - Parks and Rec - had a Galentine’s Party:
In 2010, Season 2, Episode 16 of Parks and Recreation sees the female cast members celebrating the holiday with brunch and a gift exchange. Then that went well on social media, so in 2011, the show did another Galentine’s Day, and in 2012 did another - trying to find a special friend for one of the female cast members (as one moved on).
So, naive Karen now knows that February 13th is really National Galentine’s Day!!
We (the Fire Ant Granny Basketball team) are having a party. It will be a potluck with games and food. There is also a special event planned (one of our team members has something unusual going on - shhh - no sharing).
*****
Most of you know that I am a transgender woman (no, that is not a profanity - although politicians seem to want to attack transgender people). Being in a group of women (I felt like saying “Being in a group of girls”) is a new concept for me. I know that most of my Fire Ants and other friends fully accept me as a legitimate woman.
As I go through my list of friends - I don’t have many close male friends anymore. Yesterday, I had lunch with BK, on Monday I had lunch with MN. And, on Tuesday, I had a malt with about 30 Granny Basketball friends (we went out after the games).
And, now, I am having Galentine’s Day with my Granny Basketball Friends.
