Watch what you say - part IV

Watching what you say - part IV

https://myemail.constantcontact.com/7-Benefits-of-Daily-Affirmations.html

This is just an extension of the last three days - watching what we say.  It is really my old friend “GIGO” - garbage in, garbage out.

Let’s think of what you say for kids!!!  When I was a child, if I said something profane, I was to have my mouth washed out with soap.  (I never had my mouth washed out with soap!!!  YEAH).

But, most of us have seen (in grocery stores or other public places), where a mother is disciplining a naughty child, but the mother’s language is ghastly (that is - profane).  “You mean, terrible brat, you are just a brat, you *&#**&%%*.  The child psychologists suggest that much of our personalities are set by age 4 or 5.  The child who hears his parents swear has a tendency to grow up that way.

Proverbs 22:6 says “Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.”

When I was a child, we watched a television show “Kids say the darndest things” (With Art Linkletter).  One of the questions Mr. Linkletter would ask “Did your parents tell you not to say anything when you came here?”  The kids would say all kinds of things “Not to say that mom is fat, not to say that dad hits me”.  (I read once that kids under 5 and women over 70 will speak their minds easier than others!!)

But, I also wanted to write about affirmations in this series on “Watching what we say”.

From the linked article, I copied this:

Here are 7 benefits of daily affirmation:

1. You'll become aware of your daily thoughts, words, and feelings; and reduce the risk of letting negativity seep in.

2. You'll be more focused on your goal, which serves to encourage and motivate you.

3. Daily affirmations not only help keep you surrounded by the things you want in your life but they help bring about more blessings and gifts.

4. A daily practice of affirmation helps to keep the small things in perspective.

5. A recent study shows that optimistic people have healthier hearts, and affirmations help you to stay positive.

6. As you continue this practice, others take note and you begin to help those around you without even trying. This, in turn, helps keep you focused.

7. Daily affirmations keep you in a constant state of gratitude.

I try to say positive things to others - AND - to myself!!!  (excuse me for this).  In the morning when I face the bathroom mirror, I say out loud “Karen, you are a beautiful lady”.If I do something stupid, I say out loud “Karen, you are so much fun” and I laugh at myself.  “Karen, you are a good cook”, “Karen you are so kind and loving”.

I like Beatles music - and I sing along with most of it - but there is one song I don’t sing!!  I don’t sing “I’m a loser” - because I’m NOT a loser.  I don’t want that tune in my brain.  I’m a winner - plus LOVE WINS!!!

The net result from the past four days - WATCH WHAT YOU SAW!!!

Tomorrow - Love Wins Friday; then a Saturday Story and a Sunday-Funday post!!!

“See you soon”!!!
