It was maybe a year ago when I encountered the term “GOAT”.  Now, I am familiar with goat - the animal - maybe with horns, sometimes a little aggressive, chews all kinds of trash, but this was a different usage.

GOAT - Greatest of All Time.  It was on a sportscast which seems appropriate.  I don’t remember the commentary of which GOAT they were debating.

Maybe it was Michael Jordan - as the “Greatest of All Time” in NBA basketball; or Babe Ruth (or Mickey Mantle)  as the GOAT of Major League Baseball.  Is Tiger Woods the GOAT of golf?

Being named as the GOAT of anything is a nice honor.  I am the GOAT of blog writers, who are former professors in South Dakota, Connecticut, and Texas who lives on Rockmoor Drive in Georgetown Texas.  (I had to qualify that quite a bit to make myself the “Greatest Of All Time”!!! <grin>)

But, it is nice to be a GOAT.  I know a lot of GOATS - greatest of all time former business education teachers who became an information systems teachers, and got a doctorate and is a farmer’s wife and originally from White Lake South Dakota; or the GOAT of Boy Scout Leaders in Connecticut who supported his children in their musical activities (and works at Home Depot - did I get that right RP?) Or the GOAT as a truly nice, caring, generous man, who formerly ran the St. Vincent DePaul thrift shop and is married to a truly nice, caring, generous woman, who “runs” the St. Vincent de Paul parish.  Or the GOAT who hikes around Colorado with his faithful dog Skjegg and does awesome things!!! Or, the GOAT, who is the absolutely best bureau chief, chief agricultural and legislative reporter in Nebraska, and father to three awesome triplets!!!

(There are so many others - but this works for me)

We all are GOATs of something.  (I had to qualify my GOAT notation to include my street and background - there might be a great blog writer in another one of the apartment buildings in my complex).

You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body  and knit me together in my mother’s womb.

Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex!  Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.

You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion,  as I was woven together in the dark of the womb.

Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.

HOW PRECIOUS ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT ME, O GOD.  THEY CANNOT BE NUMBERED!

That last verse boggles my mind - God thinks about ME???  (my human side says, “Boy, God must be really bored if he is thinking about me!!!”)   And, not just one little thought - but LOTS of thoughts about me - so many they can’t be numbered!!!  (Excuse me - WOOOOOOOOO!!!)

Now being a GOAT - Greatest Of All Time in sports doesn’t mean a person is perfect.  Michael Jordan said “I've missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. Twenty-six times I've been trusted to take the game-winning shot and missed.”

(And, for sure I am not perfect - just trying!!!)

We all are unique.  Our fingerprints are all different, our DNA is all different, our experiences, thoughts, education, are all unique.  My friend Steve who was our janitor in the Lender School of Business Building was the GOAT in being sport-knowledgeable, friendly, competent, and a huge Yankee fan!!

So, two things today

One - we are unique and wonderfully made

Two - GOD thinks about me (us) - frequently - a lot - so many times they can’t be numbered.
