NATIONAL DAYS - UPCOMING WEEK
BUY A MUSICAL INSTRUMENT DAY - May 22, 2022 - National Today

As a tuba player, as I grew up, the school furnished tubas for me to play.  In marching band, we had sousaphones and in regular band upright tubas.  In 2000 when I moved to Connecticut and wanted to play in the Hamden Symphony Orchestra, I needed a tuba.  I borrowed one from a friend for four years.  Then I finally bought my very own tuba!!!

NATIONAL LUCKY PENNY DAY - May 23, 2022 - National Today

National Lucky Penny Day is celebrated on May 23. It’s always nice to find a penny and on this day everyone is on the lookout in the hopes of finding one lying around. The discovery of pennies is often associated with good luck and celebrators believe that if you find a penny on National Lucky Penny Day, you might just be incredibly blessed!

(I like finding pennies - in particular, I like that they say “In God we Trust”!!!)

May 24 - Bob Dylan's Birthday - National Today

Bob Dylan - what an icon!!!  In 2016 he was the first musician honored with the Nobel Prize for Literature!!!  Here are a few of his hits/songs

Blowin’ In The Wind

Like A Rolling Stone

The Times They Are A-Changin’

Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right

Rainy Day Woman #12 and 35 (Okay - a little strange - but cool in the 60s)

NATIONAL SENIOR HEALTH AND FITNESS DAY - May 25, 2022 - National Today

I think we all need to work on our fitness.  I call Granny Basketball my “aerobics” class.  (I’m not sure I’m much help to the team).  From the Bridge Brat’s group, we have our outstanding Zumba instructor (Vickie)

NATIONAL PAPER AIRPLANE DAY - May 26, 2022 - National Today

I’m going to do paper airplanes with one of my Wesleyan people tomorrow.  I got an airplane at the dollar store last week (and it didn’t fly very well), so we are going to make paper airplanes tomorrow.  I am not an expert - and I do allow for staples (to hold it together) and maybe for tape.

May 27 National Hairstylist Mental Health Awareness Day (nationaltoday.com)

This “holiday” is part of Mental Health Awareness month.  The information on National Today says “Hair Stylists offer more than a cut or color, they offer a sympathetic ear as their customer opens up about their problems. National Hairstylist Mental Health Awareness Day on May 27 ensures that hairstylists are also being heard and that they have a safe space to talk about their problems, a safe space similar to the one that they so often provide for others.”

May 28 - Granny Basketball Tournament in Georgetown

We are fortunate to have four Granny Basketball teams in our area - Round Rock Rockettes, Harker Heights Old Glories, Waco Six Shooters, and the Georgetown Fire Ants (“sting ‘em”).  This tournament will be different as we’ll have some different activities - like the “super” grannies (over 70), and other special features.  It will be a fun day.

May 28 - Last Saturday night at Walburg until Oktoberfest for the Brushy Creek Brass Band / Walburg Boys.  Come on out and enjoy!!!  (In the far back of the restaurant) - we start at 7:00.  (I might be tired after playing basketball all day!!!)

JOKES

What did the evil chicken lay?  Deviled Eggs

I read that by law you must turn on your headlights when it’s raining in Sweden, but how am I supposed to know when it’s raining in Sweden?

I was addicted to the hokey pokey…but I turned myself around.

I don’t trust stairs. They are always up to something.

Today, my son asked, “Can I have a bookmark?” I burst into tears—11 years old and he still doesn’t know my name is Brian.

When I was a kid, my dad got fired from his job as a road worker for theft. I refused to believe he could do such a thing, but when I got home, the signs were all there.

Why didn’t Han Solo enjoy his steak dinner? It was Chewie.

Why don’t pirates take a bath before they walk the plank? They just wash up onshore.

Why do you never see elephants hiding in trees? Because they’re so good at it.

Have an awesome week - enjoy your bridge, and your basketball, and head out to Walburg.  It is fun!!!  (Really!!)

LOVE WINS!!

Karen
