Ah, Yes, it is St. Urho’s Day!!!  Time to honor a Finnish hero!!

According to the description, St. Urho is a fictional Finnish figure.  St. Urho is an unusual character. As legends have it, the saint chased the grasshoppers out of Finland shouting at them, “Grasshoppers, Grasshoppers, Go to Hell!” But why did he want grasshoppers to disappear from Finland? This was so the wine vineyards could be saved from destruction. He also wanted to save the grapes and the worker’s jobs, all while feeding on only sour milk and fish soup. Thanks to his noble deeds, he became a hero. That sounds similar to St. Patrick, doesn’t it?

Legend also has it that St. Urho was inspired by St. Patrick. As the Finnish version of the Irish saint, you will find statues of St. Urho in Minnesota, depicting him holding large grasshoppers in honor of his sacrifice. People wear purple and green on this day

And, what a character - living on sour milk and fish soup!!!  (To be a hero you have to be a bit unusual!!!)

Supposedly St. Patrick chased all the snakes out of Ireland and St. Urho cleaned Finland of grasshoppers.

BUT - we need to have some fun in life.  We need to laugh, and enjoy life!!  Why not laugh at St. Urho saying, “Grasshoppers, Grasshoppers, Go to Hell!” (and saying it in English as well).  

I find myself laughing at little things - something struck me as funny!!!  Life is not a spectator sport.  It is living a happy, fulfilled life, laughing at times, crying at times, and loving ALL THE TIME.  

(Now, I need a new “Saint” to get the ants out of the cracks in my sidewalk by my apartment -and say "Ants, ants, go to hell!!" !!! <grin>)
