FRIDAY, APRIL 14, 2023 SPIRITUAL THOUGHTS / INFINITY

 FRIDAY, APRIL 14, 2023 - SPIRITUAL THOUGHTS

For months, I have been enthralled by “Infinity”.  Yes, maybe it is an infatuation.

First I read about the estimated number of galaxies - something like 8 trillion - or 8,000,000,000 galaxies - with many millions of stars and possible planets.

Then, Psalm 139 (an awesome psalm, but 17-18):

How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me!

Scientists estimate the number by measuring the average size of a grain of sand, then calculating how many sand grains it would take to fill, say, a gallon jug. Using the latest geological studies, they calculate the total volume of sand on Earth. Scientists estimate that Earth contains 7.5 sextillion sand grains. (Okay, that is a lot of sand).

So, from Psalm 139:17-18 (above), God has over 75,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 (that is 7.5 sextillion grains of sand) thoughts about ME.

*****

TIME-OUT

God has over 7.5 sextillion thoughts about ME???  I think that is a lot more than the thoughts I have about myself.  Is He (She, It, The Force, Ahh) thinking what if two blood cells bump into each other?  Is He thinking about the nerve endings in my big toe (especially when I stub my toe)? Is He thinking about my skin cells?  Is He thinking of all the atoms that make up my body?

So, if God has over 7.5 sextillion thoughts about me, and He would have 7.5 sextillion thoughts about you, and 7.5 sextillion thoughts about every person - He is busy!!  BUT - He is God, He is infinite.

Aside Jesus is called the Alpha and the Omega - using the Greek alphabet.  Mathematicians gave a name to Omega - Infinity raised to the infinity power.  (Okay, that in-and-of-itself is a bit of nonsense, but If infinity is (well) infinite, so infinity raised to the infinity power blows my mind!!)

And, God is LOVE - so not only does He think about me, but He also loves me in those 7.5 sextillion thoughts.

And, he had thoughts about ALL the plants, animals, and living things on all the potential planets of 8 trillion galaxies. Karen says “That’s a lot.”

And to God … that’s just a normal moment!!!  God seems to be outside of time - “as it was, in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end”.

Every time I think of God’s infinity, it grows even bigger (‘yes, Karen, infinity is big <grin>)

Does God think about me?

If Psalm 139:17-18 is correct

How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me!

Does God know my every thought and my every action?  Is God bigger, faster, and more accurate than the best computer of today, and even the best computer in the future.

If there is a judgment at the end of my life or at the end of the world, do I think that there are secrets that only I know (that God doesn’t know?).  (No - He is all-knowing).

Can God say (on the judgment day), “Karen do you remember that nasty thing you thought and didn’t even say about (some person)?”

Psalm 139:7 adds “I can never escape from your Spirit!  I can never get away from your presence!”

And Psalm 139:1-2

O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me. You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I’m far away.

*****

And …if you accept this, God KNOWS Everything about Everybody!!!

*****

But, if you don’t accept this, hey - you’re home free!!  (Or are you?)  I can hypothesize about God, but I really don’t know anything.

Isaiah 55: 8-9

“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.

*****

No one is like him. No, not one. We can shudder at the magnitude of that reality and glorify Him through overflowing thanksgiving and joy at such an immeasurable gift. Yet in our shuddering, we embrace him as our dearest Friend, closest Confidant, and Bridegroom. It is the greatest, kindest, and richest thing we could ever experience — because we were made for it.

So, again, God is infinite; God is love; Love Wins!!!

LOVE WINS

LOVE TRANSFORMS
