IT’S MAY!! Welcome to the fifth month of 2023 - May.

I was thinking of a song from the Musical Camelot where Guenieve sings “The Lusty Month of May”

Tra la! It's May!

The lusty month of May!

That lovely month when ev'ryone goes

Blissfully astray

Tra la! It's here!

That shocking time of year

When tons of wicked little thoughts

Merrily appear!

So, let’s enjoy the “Lusty month of May”. (although I’m not quite sure about “ev’ryone goes blissfully astray”).

Camelot is an excellent story - King Arthur pulls the sword out of the stone, Queen  Guenieve falls in love with Sir Lancelot, and ultimately destroys the idealism of Camelot.

(Of course, which knight at the round table was the fattest?  Sir cumference (circumference)!!

As kids, we had this rhyme:

April Showers Bring May Flowers

And, then “What do Mayflowers bring”? Pilgrims

(Or “What do Mayflowers bring”? New Neighbors with a Mayflower Moving Van)

As kids, we celebrated May Day - and made flower baskets for our neighbors.  We picked flowers (mostly wildflowers, not Mom’s nice tulips), rolled up an 8 by 10 sheet of construction paper into a cone shape, wrote “Happy May Day” on the paper, put the flowers in the cone, and put on a doorknob and rang the doorbell (and hid in the bushes).  

(Of course, we wanted the people to see us, but pretend not to see us.  If they said “What nice flowers, I wonder who gave them to me” - we’d be happy!!  

My sister would pick wildflowers and sell them to one of the neighbors.  He offered her a “big nickel”, or a “skinny, little dime”, and she would take the big nickel - not realizing that the ‘skinny, little dime’ was worth twice as much!!

Locally in central Texas, our well-known German Restaurant has (of course) Oktoberfest; but I think Mayfest is even nicer!!!  In terms of Astronomy, Mayfest comes between the spring equinox and the summer solstice; so the sun is still up when we play.  But, Oktoberfest comes after the fall equinox and the winter solstice, so it is dark when we play.  It is also nicer weather for Mayfest (normally).
