TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 20, 2024 EARWORMS!!!
There is a concept that when a song gets “stuck” in your head, it is an “earworm.”
And I have earworms most of the time.
I first heard the term (although I had known the experience for years) from LR. Somebody said the Disney song “It’s a Small World After All” was their main earworm. (As I write this, “It’s a Small World” is now spinning in my brain!!)
It may be the last song I heard or thought of a memory or event. Of course, if it is a Monday and raining, I’ll have “Rainy Days and Mondays Always Get Me Down” (by the Carpenters) floating in my brain, or maybe “Monday, Monday” by the Mamas and Papas.
If I think of my orchestra concert in two weeks, my brain is “firing” on the Finale to the Firebird Suite, one of the pieces we are playing (and one of my all-time favorites).
There are certain times that a particular song might occur. On Sundays at the collection, I hear a song from my childhood Sunday School (“We Give Thee But Thine Own”) just like I’m a fourth grader in the Sunday School opening exercise.
The songs don’t always have meanings - just some peppy tunes - even ads can float in my brain.
Does this happen to you? Do songs linger in your brain? Are they songs you like?
I will write down the tunes that pop into my mind for the next day.
