Change your mind - part II
From Success Magazine and John Maxwell:
We started this yesterday, so we will finish it
off today.
Yesterday:
#1 When you change your thinking, you change
your beliefs
#2 When you change your beliefs, you change
your expectations.
#3 When you change your expectations you change
your attitude
Today:
#4 When you change your attitude, you change
your behavior
I know three strong people who were alcoholics
(or, they still are alcoholics, but have avoiding the temptations for many
years)
They changed their beliefs - leading to a change
in attitude what said (to them at least) “I don’t need alcohol”!! They
stopped buying alcohol and tucking it away in the pantry. Coming home from work, they don’t want a
cocktail - their behavior changed.
#5 When you change your behavior you change
your performance
Maxwell writes, “Most people would rather live
with old problems than new solutions. We would rather be comfortable than
correct; we would rather stay in a routine than make changes. Even when we know
that the changes are going to be better for us, we often don’t make them
because we feel uncomfortable or awkward about making that kind of a change.
Until we get courage and get used to living with something that is not
comfortable, we cannot get any better.”
Yes, we are in our comfort zone. Doing
what we have been doing - the same old things - again and again. In the
past I talked of a cartoon with a person in a pathway asking, “Am I in the
groove or am I in a rut”. Grooves feel good, and ruts even feel
good. Without implying anything, I was
in a rut. My comfort zone was just too
‘comforting’. I needed to change in order to grow. And, I had changed - and I am still
changing. Your change does not have to
be as radical as my change but changing - such as stopping smoking or drinking
or overeating or not exercising requires an action!!
#6 When you change your performance you change
your LIFE
YEP - you need to change your life for the
better.
Some people have suggested that we need to make
the current situation - the status quo - be so very painful that we HAVE to
change. Realize that your smoking will probably cause health problems; or
your drinking will cause health problems, or your obesity will also cause you
health problems.
CHANGE YOUR LIFE FOR THE BETTER!!!
