SUNDAY FUNDAY
Sunday January 17, 2021
Just over ½ months in 2021. Is this going well for you?
My health provider (Baylor, Scott, and White) indicated they would be getting vaccines in the next week and those over 65 would be eligible. Let’s see!!!
How are you doing with “pandemic cabin fever”? I’m getting tired of isolation. I don’t try to push it as I do know people who have (or had) COVID-19. I did a test before Thanksgiving and was negative - but that was a “snapshot”. I feel good - and think I’m okay - but I have decided that I will get the vaccination when it becomes available.
I’m doing some coaching (life coaching) lately. (I need to keep busy). As some of you know, I do a daily blog, plus try to get five miles walking (if I can). Hopefully, we all are getting some exercise.

WORD PUZZLES
I think the Wuzzles went over nicely last week, so here are five more. See if you can figure out the word phase. I tried to get hard ones!!!

PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL
I used to follow both college and professional football. I just had to look up who won the NCAA National Division I football championship between Ohio State and Alabama (when you don’t have a TV you miss things like this).
This coming weekend we have:
Los Angeles Rams at the Frozen Tundra - Green Bay Packers - Green Bay Won!!
Baltimore Ravens at Buffalo Bills - The game was in progress as I went to bed.
Cleveland Browns at the Kansas City Chiefs
Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the New Orleans Saints
Do you have any favorites?
I became a Green Bay fan years ago - as my first teaching position was in Wisconsin. I did have a cheese head (but, alas that has been lost). I like the concept that if the Packers decided to leave Green Bay, the city “kind of” owns them, and the city (or the American Legion of Green Bay) would get the money!!!
And, the Superbowl is almost an American Holiday!!! (If I remember, it is the day in the United States with the most pizza, most wings, and maybe the most beer sales!!!) (Last year, a friend invited people over to watch on his rented huge projected screen. He was originally from the Kansas City area!!!)
It could be a rematch of Superbowl I - Green Bay versus Kansas City!!

MORE FUN - some COVID jokes
Why did the chicken cross the road? Because the chicken behind it didn’t know how to socially distance properly.
Two grandmothers were bragging about their precious darlings. One of them says to the other, “Mine are so good at social distancing, they won’t even call me.”
Who’s idea was it to sing “Happy Birthday” while washing your hands? Now every time I go to the bathroom, my kids expect me to walk out with a cake.
My husband purchased a world map and then gave me a dart and said, “Throw this and wherever it lands—that’s where I’m taking you when this pandemic ends.” Turns out, we’re spending two weeks behind the fridge.
Ran out of toilet paper and started using lettuce leaves. Today was just the tip of the iceberg, tomorrow romaines to be seen. (ouch!!!)
My mom always told me I wouldn’t accomplish anything by lying in bed all day. But look at me now, ma! I’m saving the world!
After years of wanting to thoroughly clean my house but lacking the time, this week I discovered that wasn’t the reason.
If I keep stress-eating at this level, the buttons on my shirt will start socially distancing from each other.
Every few days try your jeans on just to make sure they fit. Pajamas will have you believe all is well in the kingdom.
Yesterday I ran out of soap and body wash and all I could find was dish detergent. Then it Dawned on me.
SO WHAT SPECIAL DAYS ARE AHEAD?
January 17, National Hot Buttered Rum day
Okay, (admission), I’ve never had Hot Buttered Rum. Maybe when COVID is over, we can have a party (probably not at my 582 square foot apartment) with Hot Buttered Rum!!
January 18, National Thesaurus Day
Like when I’m tired of the same old words and phrases I can check the thesaurus for some adroit words!!!
January 20 - National Cheese Lover’s Day
I think I’ve mentioned before that my favorite cheese is American (is that even really a cheese?)
My grandfather loved Limburger Cheese (I have no idea of what it tastes like, but it was so super smelly!!!)
January 21 - National Hugging Day
I am a hugger - I think the power of human touch is important. I can do a nice “side hug” that isn’t quite as violating a person’s space. Good friends deserve a hug (and all of my readers of this blog deserve a BIG HUG!!!)
I’m worried about the impact of COVID on hugging in the future. Will we NOT hug as much? That would make the world a ‘colder’ place
January 22 - National HOT SAUCE day
I am not a big fan of hot sauce, but I know a lot of people are fans. I’ve gotten better. I have chili powder and Cajun spices on my seasoning shelf - and use them regularly. But, I generally avoid the jalapenos that are so common in TexMex cuisine.
(Not to be confused with March 14 - which is 3.14 - or Pi). I like pie. I love pie - or at least certain kinds of pie. Yesterday I was at a Farmer’s Market and there was a booth with pecan pie. We first had to ascertain how to pronounce “pecan” - PEE - CAN - or pee - con? But, pecan pie is not on my top ten list of pies. What are your favorite pies? I think peach pie is on the top of my list. But, others are okay too - like cherry.
HISTORICAL DAYS
January 17, 1966 - The Monkees television show premieres!!! (I bet many of you remember them)
January 18, 1778 - Captain Cook reaches Hawaii. (We might say “discovers” - but there were people there). He named them the Sandwich Islands. From what I understand, he then was the first to have a pizza with pineapple on it!!!
January 20, 1981 - Iran hostage crisis ends.
Yes, on his inauguration on January 20, 1981, Ronald Reagan got the hostages released.
January 21, 2017 - Women's March
“On the first full day of Donald Trump’s presidency, hundreds of thousands of people crowd into the U.S. capital for the Women’s March on Washington, a massive protest in the nation’s capital aimed largely at the Trump administration and the perceived threat it represented to reproductive, civil and human rights.
“At the same time, more than 3 million people in cities across the country and around the world held their own simultaneous protests in a global show of support for the resistance movement. It was the largest single-day protest in U.S. history.
“During the 2016 presidential campaign, the release of a 2005 recording of Trump commenting in crude language about how his celebrity status allowed him to force himself on women prompted numerous women to come forward with accusations about his past inappropriate sexual conduct. Trump dismissively called the recording “locker room talk” and disputed the accusers’ claims.
“But his unexpected victory over his Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton—the first female presidential nominee of a major party in U.S. history—outraged and saddened many who objected to his past treatment of and statements about women, as well as his controversial positions and rhetoric during the campaign.
WRAP-UP
So, here we are - trying to make sense of what all is going on around us, trying to love one another.
I’ve taken the motto “Love Wins”. I believe we all are made in the image and likeness of God (however you perceive Him/Her/Force/Infinity). To me, I can ‘hate’ anybody (even after I go down four tricks)!!
I eagerly look forward to some kind of ‘normal’ (will there ever be a real normal again in our lifetimes?)
HUGS!!! (And celebrating National Hugging Day on January 21st!!!)
