20/20 Vision

            20/20 Vision.

In the vision world, we have this:
“20/20 vision is a term used to express normal visual acuity (the clarity or sharpness of vision) measured at a distance of 20 feet. If you have 20/20 vision, you can see clearly at 20 feet what should normally be seen at that distance. If you have 20/100 vision, it means that you must be as close as 20 feet to see what a person with normal vision can see at 100 feet.

20/20 Vision is the norm.  And, many of us don’t meet that standard.  Thus we have glasses or contacts.

Since this is somewhat a motivational blog, (you can determine that), I’m not talking about glasses or eye-vision, but heart vision.

Let’s go to the Judeo-Christian concept.

From the Book of Joel (old Testament prophet) chapter 2, verse 28:

“I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your old men will dream dreams,
your young men will see visions.”

So, let’s talk of “vision” in the philosophical sense.

Do you have a vision - or a dream?  (By-the-way, that is how you can tell a person’s age - if you are old - you will dream dreams, and if you are young, you will see visions!!!)

Martin Luther King gave a memorable speech “I have a dream” in Washington D.C. on August 23, 1963. Here is one of his statements from that speech:

“I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, and every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight; "and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed and all flesh shall see it together."

“I have a dream” - “I have a vision”.

This is the second day of the year 2020.  It is time to dream dreams.  What dreams do you have for this new year?  Will you be healthier at the end of the year as compared to today?  Will you be happier at the end of the year as compared to today?  Will you be better off financially as compared to today?

I have had a few visions in my life - one that I hold firmly.  I trust that it is a legitimate dream.  For 2020 (the year), I have a dream (or vision) that by the end of the year reconciliation (for me) will occur.  I have a dream, that by the end of the year, I can reflect that I have served humanity well.  I have a dream that by the end of the year that I will be worthy of the words “Well done good and faithful servant”.  That that I am such a ‘good’ or that I am such a ‘faithful’ servant.  But, it is my goal, vision and dream to be a small voice calling in the wilderness - proclaiming love, forgiveness, joy and peace.  Proclaiming healing and the end to separation between peoples.

As before, I am a Pollyanna.  There is good in the land, we all can have dreams like Martin Luther King - or see visions.

The Army used to have a statement “Be all you can be”.  So, for this year (even though I will not fully achieve it), I need to aim for the best I can be, I need to be a better version of myself this year.

To my friends.  I will move away from philosophy for a while in this blog.

But, I ask - do you have a vision for 2020 (or 20/20)?  Do you like Martin Luther King have a dream for good?

Love you all!!!
