Two topics - Streaming Services and Global Warming

Topic 1: Streaming Wars

Okay, you know this is not my area (since I don’t have a television set).  I think I can get streaming services on my laptop computer (but, why would I)?

We have Netflix, Hulu, Apple TV+, Disney+, HBO Max, Quibi, and now Peacock (the new NBC streaming application!!

And, it seems like your favorite shows aren’t (unfortunately) on the same streaming platform.

Now, there are also the “Cord-Cutters” - people who don’t have cable television anymore.   They have cut it off in favor of having just a streaming service (most likely Netflix).  Others, like my friend MN, have put a receiver in their house where they can catch local programming over the airwaves (hey - just like back in the 1950s when we had rabbit ears - and then antennas on every house rooftop.

So, where do you stand?  Do you have a streaming service (or services)?  Do you also have cable television?  Do you have the local receiver in your house?  Do you have a satellite dish?

What option have you opted for - and why?

Topic 2:: Global warming

By now, you have been told that 2019 was the second warmest year on record (globally).

Some concepts - rising sea levels (goodbye Venice!!), agriculture crop failure, pollution, carbon footprint, and much more.

Generating more energy from renewable sources: “Germany will pay about $5 billion to shut down their coal plants early.  The goal is to reach 65% of electricity to come from renewable sources by 2030.

Some corporate ‘good citizens’: “Microsoft promised to go “carbon-negative” (removing more carbon than it emits) by 2030 and create a $1 billion fund for carbon capture tech. NestlĂ© said it will spend $2+ billion to develop suitable recycled plastic packaging. And Colgate will sell the first recyclable toothpaste tubes.

But, is it too little too late?  Hard to tell!!

What are your thoughts about global warming and climate change?  Real?  Just part of a cycle (that is, wait a few more eons and we’ll be back in an ice age again)?  Just hyped up to make news stories.

Ah, plenty of things to think about!!!

Hugs!!

Karen
