FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 22, 2023 - SPIRITUAL THOUGHTS
I heard a comment a while back about Christianity and Churchianity.
As I understand the comment, some people in churches are there because that just seems to be the regular thing to do on a Sunday morning.
Many years ago, I was an ‘on-fire’ Christian and young and dynamic. I somehow was elected to the church board. My religion was important. I was going to Bible Study, teaching Sunday School, and singing in the choir.
There was a man on the church board I didn’t know well. He made about 2/3rds of the board meetings. Stilling in the choir loft at the back of the church, I could see the backs of the attendees. He was in church (with his wife) about 2/3rd of the time. I learned that he thought being a church member and being on the church board was good for his business (insurance sales).
My blog today puts me at odds with one of my core values. “Do Not Judge”.
I don’t know this man’s heart - but he might be more of a “Churchianity” person. He liked church like he liked belonging to the Rotary Club. It was good for business!!!
So, how about you? Do you live your values? Do you live your faith? Do you love your neighbor as yourself?
*****
Of course, it isn’t just church; it might be work. Are you just going through the motions? Or are you really contributing to the company?
How about in your marriage? Are you really committed to your spouse? If so - SHOW IT!!
There is an old story. The couple had been married for 43 years. Janie wondered if Joe really loved her. It stayed on her mind for a long time. Joe never said, “I love you.” Did he love her?
One night, she demands, “Do you love me, Joe?”
Joe answers (like a man). “I told you I loved You on our wedding day 43 years ago. If it had changed, I would have told you.
Another adage is “Talk the talk, and walk the walk.”
So, think about your commitments this weekend - are you really committed to your faith or going through the motions? Are you committed to God, or is it just for show? Are you committed to your job - or just going through the motions.
LOVE WINS
LOVE TRANSFORMS
