HUMOR

Things YOU say as a senior:

Where is my phone?

How did I get this bruise?

That isn’t my password, either.

How do they expect you to read this small print

Where did I put my glasses?
I don’t care if it isn’t fashionable, it's comfortable.

Who is calling at 9:30 pm

Doesn’t anyone say please and thank you anymore?

How can you throw out your body just by sleeping wrong?

What’s the matter with people these days.

Why did I come into this room?

I’ve also been learning when a woman says, “I’ll be ready in five minutes, " even though she knows it will be longer than that!!!

You know, as I get older, I get a little more spiritual - I keep thinking about the “hereafter” (you know, as you walk into a room and you say to yourself, “What am I here after?”!!)

I decided I needed to get into shape.  I decided to take a Zumba class with Vickie.  I bent, twisted, gyrated, jumped up and down, and perspired for an hour. But the class was over by the time I got my leotards on.

A young man was walking through a supermarket to pick up a few things when he noticed an old lady following him around. Thinking nothing of it, he ignored her and continued.

Finally, he went to the checkout line, but she got in front of him. "Pardon me," she said, "I'm sorry if my staring at you made you uncomfortable. It's just that you look just like my son, who just died recently." "I'm very sorry," replied the young man, "Is there anything I can do for you?" "Yes," she said, "As I'm leaving, can you say 'Goodbye, Mother'? It would make me feel so much better." "Sure," answered the young man.

As the old woman left, he said, "Goodbye, Mother!" As he approached the checkout counter, he saw his total was $127.50. "How can that be?" He asked, "I only purchased a few things!" "Your mother said you would pay for her," said the clerk.

I got this message from one of my orchestra friends - a high school band teacher:

Every High School should do this.  Load the football team up - raise money if needed. Load them all up and go to a marching band competition. Have them cheer and support their (yes - their) marching band at their home games. It is the least that should be done. Think of how the band kids feel knowing that all those football players supported them!!  That would be great “School Spirit” - and I bet it would do a lot more good than you could ever realize.

UPCOMING DAYS

GRANDPARENTS DAY — SEPT 10

“We celebrate National Grandparents Day on the first Sunday after Labor Day. This year, the date falls on September 10. Like Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, we also have a whole day dedicated to our grandparents. Grandparents and children have a special connection that is proven to make grandparents live longer and make children more emotionally resilient. Grandparents Day is an opportunity to treasure that connection and spend quality family time together.

(I hope your grandchildren call or spend time with you today!!)

Patriot Day (nationaltoday.com)

I had just returned from a class and was passing through the lobby of the School of Business on September 11, 2001.   The television sets were on - and the staff was standing looking at the devastation of two airplanes running into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center.  I stayed to watch.    Our lives changed - more (and more) money was spent on security.  We distrusted our Arabic/ Muslim friends.  We didn’t know who was who - and fought wars in Iraq and Afghanistan (and they generally were not all that well supported at home - maybe a little like Vietnam.

I like peace; I like comfort.  I don’t like seeing our young men and women killed.  It has led to more hatred in the world and more angry rhetoric.  Why can’t we learn to love, forgive, and heal?  And the shadow of hate grows wider - keep those lousy immigrants out of our country; keep those queers away from my children.  Russia against Ukraine keeps going on.

Shine a light in the darkness; love one another.

WRAP-UP:

September is here - the kids (and grandkids) are back in school; the daylight hours are getting shorter; fall will officially start soon; and it will (eventually) cool off - and maybe there will be rain!!!

What can you do to make this a memorable fall?  (One thing would be not physically fall!!!)  Are you making plans?

Granny Basketball is back (for me).  I’ll let you know when there is a home game - so you can see the Georgetown Fire Ants in action.

The Bluebonnet Philharmonic Orchestra is back - with concerts in Cedar Park and Pflugerville in October.

The Brushy Creek Brass Band will play at Rentsch Brewery on September 30 and at Walburg every Saturday night in October (Oktoberfest).
