SATURDAY, AUGUST 10, 2024 - THINGS

 SATURDAY, AUGUST 10, 2024 -SERENITY PRAYER

O God, give us the serenity to accept what cannot be changed, the courage to change what can be changed, and the wisdom to know the one from the other. 

This last week was Happiness Happens Day.

I chose to be HAPPY!! 

I once had a beautiful house in a great neighborhood (valued at about $500,000); I had a retirement plan over $1 million.  

SO WHAT!!!

“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!  Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.  Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

‭‭Philippians‬ ‭4‬:‭4-7

Rejoice.  I don’t know what the future brings - but in the “here and now”, I get to be HAPPY.

I modified a song by Paul Revere and the Raiders - about Kicks (except I put in the word THINGS)

THINGS just keep gettin' harder to find

And all your THINKS ain't bringin' you peace of mind

Before you find out, it's too late, girl

You better get straight

No, but not with THINGS

It’s not about THINGS- it’s about LOVE.   It’s about that PEACE that is beyond our human understanding. 

I heard the phrase, “You’ll never see a funeral hearse pulling a U-Haul trailer” - you can’t take it with you.  That ½ million house will still be in Leander, Texas - and owned by somebody else.  The money will be dispersed (hopefully to grandchildren)

So, what can we change? (From the serenity prayer)

The only thing I can change is me.  

(And that is still a major work in progress!!)

Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.  (Matthew 6:19-21)
