SUNDAY FUNDAY - NOVEMBER 15, 2020

 SUNDAY FUNDAY

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 1st, 2020

SOME THINGS TO THINK ABOUT:

Valentine's day is on the 14th of February. Children's day in India is on 14th November.  There's a gap of 9 months. I don't think I need to explain anymore.

(My birthday is in late August - when I understood the human gestation period, I wondered (and never asked), if my parents, getting up from Thanksgiving dinner decided it was time for sex!!)

A fall memory.  I grew up idolizing my grandpa.  I was his little buddy.  In fall, he raked all his leaves (Cedar Rapids Iowa) to the edge of the street and burned them.  It was a sweet but also a caustic smell that I remember.  That was before leaf burning was banned. (These days, I associate that aroma with another burning leaf that is not legal in Texas, but is legal in Colorado)

In Iowa, fall brought colder weather - and occasionally snow.  Generally, it wasn’t enough snow to sled on - but enough to brighten my day (although I don’t remember any school‘snow days’ in November).

In South Dakota, I remember a fall November Friday that changed into freezing rain.  We were driving to Sioux Falls on Black Friday to do Christmas shopping and saw several cars in the ditch and turned back.  We got off the paved roads and drove on gravel roads as I reasoned there would be better traction because of the gravel.

NOVEMBER FUN AND GAMES

I'm reading a book about anti-gravity. It's impossible to put down!

I ordered a chicken and an egg from Amazon. I’ll let you know (which comes first)

The fattest knight at King Arthur’s round table was Sir Cumference. He acquired his size from too much pi.

Don't trust atoms. They make up everything!

Clerk:: "Would you like the milk in a bag?"

Customer: "No, just leave it in the carton!’”

I used to have a job at a calendar factory but I got fired because I took a couple of days off.

You know what the loudest pet you can get is? A trumpet.

The secret service isn't allowed to yell "Get down!" anymore when the president is about to be attacked. Now they have to yell "Donald, duck!"

NATIONAL DAYS:

November 13th - World Kindness day

Yes, this was yesterday, but it can be EVERY DAY!!!

If you can be anything, be nice (or be kind)

“The purpose of World Kindness Day as outlined by the World Kindness Movement is “to highlight good deeds in the community focusing on the positive power and the common thread of kindness which binds us.” Since its creation more than two decades ago, the day has achieved truly global notice; events associated with the day have attracted participants from every inhabited continent. These have included activities such as concerts, dance mobs, and the distribution of “kindness cards.”

November 14th - World Diabetes Day

“type II diabetes has an estimated 425 million individuals affected worldwide. This alarming rise in such a preventable disease is one of the reasons the WHO and IDF wanted to create World Diabetes Day – to help spread awareness of how to prevent contracting the illness.

“Having to manage blood sugar levels on a daily basis is a time-consuming and costly endeavor, as the economic cost of diabetes globally is around $727 billion (USD) and in the US alone it costs almost a third of that, at $245 billion.

November 15th National Clean out your Refrigerator Day

“First Frigidaire was made in 1923.  Founded by the folks who brought you General Motors, the brand became so popular that many Americans called any refrigerator by the name of the company.”

(And, no checking to see if I cleaned out my refrigerator!!!)

November 15th, National Philanthropy Day

No man is an island - I think most of us do help others in some way.  I know Nancy was the director of The Caring Place and has been on many boards in our community!!!  Giving back is part of our nature!!!

November 15th - National Recycling Day

Unfortunately, I live in an apartment and we don’t have recycling.  To me, recycling makes sense.  I have saved things up and taken them to the city landfill in the past.  That is not quite as convenient as having a recycle bin.

November 17th - two similar days:  National Hiking Day and National Take a hike day

I know some of you are avid hikers.  Georgetown has some wonderful trails - get outside and take a walk (or a hike)!!

And, three related days on November 18th

Mickey Mouse Day

Mickey Mouse Birthday

And Minnie Mouse Birthday

Mickey Mouse is a true American Idol!!!  I remember from years ago when some ‘rinky-dink’ thing was called “Mickey Mouse” as in trashy, but Mickey Mouse is a big deal!!

November 19, Great American Smokeout Day

“The American Cancer Society sponsors the Great American Smokeout on the third Thursday of November (November 19), challenging smokers to give up cigarettes for 24 hours. If you or a loved one smokes cigarettes, consider joining the movement, and take the first step toward quitting cigarettes forever!

November 19th, World Toilet Day

“November 19 was designated as World Toilet Day by the United Nations General Assembly and is coordinated every year by a partnership between UN-Water and governments around the world. Today, we talk about the one invention that’s kept hidden behind closed doors

November 20th, National Absurdity Day

Hey, time to be a little (or a lot) whacky!!  “Occurring at the cusp of winter, National Absurdity Day, November 20, is a fantastic way to liven up a dreary day. What started as a philosophical movement called absurdism has bloomed into this marked calendar event, during which anyone is allowed to follow their most preposterous whims. It’s a time to exchange social customs and dull norms for playful and untethered behaviors, expressions, and ideas. Dye your eyebrows pink, juggle eggs in the city park, or lead a meeting while standing on your hands. There’s no limit to the wackiness of this holiday!

November 20th, National Transgender Day of Remembrance

“For generations, transgender people have suffered various forms of abuse (and even death) for challenging the views, notions, and stereotypes around “male” and “female” identity. Every year we set aside November 20 as a Transgender Day of Remembrance. This holiday is meant to honor, commemorate, and memorialize those who face discrimination and stigma (often on a daily basis) across the nation. This holiday is also meant to focus on the persistent struggles transgender people face in their everyday lives, and how others can share their love, support, and hope.”

Okay, I do have a bit of a vested interest here. For some strange (yet somewhat awesome) reason, I have ended up as a transgender female.  (Yes, it does even sound strange to me, but I am happy and growing in who I am).

November 21st, International Survivors of Suicide Day

“International Survivors of Suicide Day is in November on the Saturday before Thanksgiving (November 21, 2020) and promotes coming together and supporting the survivors of this tragic event. When someone commits suicide, they affect everyone who knew and loved them. For those people, grief and trauma can be especially difficult. Because death is self-inflicted, coming to terms with the reasons and the stigma associated with it often makes it hard to grapple with, which is why they need all the support they can get.”

SOME JOKES AND RIDDLES FOR NATIONAL TOILET DAY (NOVEMBER 19TH)

What did one toilet say to the other?

Answer: You look a bit flushed.

What do you call a bathroom Superhero?

Answer: Flush Gordon

What do you call a dog in your toilet?

Answer: A POODLE.

Why did the toilet paper roll down the hill?

Answer: To get to the bottom!

Why do people take naps on the toilet?

Answer: Because it's a restroom!

Why were there balloons in the bathroom?

Answer: There was a birthday potty!

(There were others - that might be a little more smelly!!!)

LOGIC PROBLEM:

You have a three-gallon and a five-gallon measuring device. You wish to measure out four gallons.

Have an awesome week!!

LOVE WINS!!
