SCARY WEEK - TUESDAY, OCTOBER 27, 2020

 SCARY WEEK - TUESDAY, OCTOBER 27, 2020

https://besttoppers.com/100-halloween-songs/

Hi friends.

With Halloween on Saturday, I’m trying to find some appropriate materials.

Today, more pop songs for Halloween.

To me, growing up in the 1960s, the #1 Halloween Song was “The Monster Mash”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRLML36HnzU

Chorus:

He did the mash, he did the monster mash

The monster mash, it was a graveyard smash

He did the mash, it caught on in a flash

He did the mash, he did the monster mash

(Not scary, but funny)

*****

Witch Doctor - David Seville (of the Chipmunks concept)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmjrTcYMqBM

*****

Love Potion #9 - the Searchers

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7rXhXLsNJL8

Again, not Halloween - but with a scary theme:

I didn't know if it was day or night

I started kissing everything in sight

But when I kissed a cop down on Thirty-Fourth and Vine

He broke my little bottle of Love Potion Number Nine

*****

Michael Jackson’s Thriller

Lyrics - definitely scary!!!

“It's close to midnight

And something evil's lurking in the dark

Under the moonlight

You see a sight that almost stops your heart

You try to scream

But terror takes the sound before you make it

You start to freeze

As horror looks you right between the eyes

You're paralyzed

'Cause this is thriller, thriller night

And no one's gonna save you from the beast about to strike

You know it's thriller, thriller night

You're fighting for your life inside a killer thriller tonight, yeah

Now - the two monster TV shows:

The Munsters: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FTl5bRYxe80

If you are as old as I am, you remember Fred Gwynne and Al Lewis from “Car 54, Where are you”.  (Or Fred Gwynne as the Judge in My Cousin Vinny)

*****

The Addams Family: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZ5IWRz78DY

“Their creepy and they're kooky

Mysterious and spooky

They're all together ooky

The Adams family”

*****

There have been really scary movies - I can’t really give enough here - but here are a few movies that appeal to me:

Citizens of Halloween - from The Nightmare before Halloween - Tim Burton:

Scary Movies don’t have to be Halloween

How about the Theme from Jaws - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A9QTSyLwd4w

The Supersized shark is coming!!!   Watch out!!!

Or, Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds (just the theme here)

*****

I generally didn’t watch horror movies (there are many, Friday the 13th, and many more).  Maybe my mind is practicing the “GIGO” concept (Garbage In, Garbage Out).  I acknowledge good and evil in this world (see Friday’s LOVE WIN’S blog)

To me, Halloween is a kid’s holiday - (but one that I enjoy too).  It is the time to go trick-or-treating - not to be scared - but to grab candy.

My costumes over the years have been good!!!  My favorite might have been Zorro - who takes from the bad and gives to the good and need; the ketchup bottle; Miss White (Dr. White’s spinster sister); Farmer Brown; the Great Pumpkin; Miss October 1963, and others.  Always to be fun - not scary, not sinister.

So, how do you celebrate Halloween?  Giving out candy to neighborhood kids (and, just maybe reserving some candy for yourself for later)? A social gathering with lots of fun costumes?

Come back tomorrow for more SPOOK WEEK!!!

LOVE WINS!!

Karen
