SUNDAY FUNDAY - OCTOBER 4, 2020

 SUNDAY FUNDAY - OCTOBER 4, 2020

Happy Sunday!!

Let’s see what we can find today!!

HUMOR

Q: Why didn't the skeleton go to the party?

A: Because he had no body to go with.

Doctor: “Sir, I’m afraid your DNA is backwards.”

Me: “And?”

Coffee has a rough time in our house. It gets mugged every single morning!

Did you hear about the restaurant on the moon? I heard the food was good but it had no atmosphere.

Police were called to a daycare center where a three-year-old was resisting a rest.

Police have arrested the World Tongue-Twister Champion.

I imagine he’ll be given a tough sentence.

And, a joke

A man walked into a crowded bar - and on one of the beams above the bar was a bag of what looked like sirloin steaks.  The man asked the bartender what’s that?

The bartender said “Those are top A1 Steaks.  If you can jump and pull it down, you can have the steaks for free, we’ll prepare them for you, plus all the beer you can drink.   But, if you jump and don’t get the bag, you have to buy a round for everybody in the place!  Do you want to try?”

The man looked again and was determining the distance to the steaks.  Finally, he said to the bartender and said “The stakes (steaks) are too high”!!!

PUZZLES

-1 A company needed to have a new World Headquarters building.  At the world headquarters building, there were 1000 people from all around the area that commuted daily to the world headquarters.  There were people from the North, South, East, and West that came to work at the World Headquarters.

But, after the new World Headquarters building was finished - EVERY SINGLE person now had a longer commute!!  (Hint: the new building was in the same community!!).  How can this be?

-2 The sum of the incomes of Abby and Becky is more than that of Carin and Delora together. The sum of the Incomes of Abby and Carin is the same as that of Becky and Delora taken together. Moreover, Abby earns half as much as the sum of the incomes of Becky and Delora? Whose income is the highest

(Solution at the bottom)

NATIONAL DAYS

***

Let’s look at Sunday, October 4th

National Cinnamon Roll Day

Hmm - I haven’t had a great cinnamon roll in a long time - but I still think I’ll pass

Two related days:

National Taco Day - and - National Crunchy Taco Day

I tend to prefer the soft tacos, but it is nice to switch to crunchy tacos every now and then!!

National Golf Lovers Day

Maybe you can squeeze in a round of golf today!!!

Amazon Prime Day - Monday, October 5th

The listing says, “Started in 2015 to celebrate Amazon’s 20th birthday, Amazon Prime Day has grown into a holiday to rival Black Friday and Cyber Monday in the U.S. and Singles Day in China. From relatively humble beginnings (we say relative because Amazon was a behemoth even then), Amazon Prime Day is now the biggest single day of shopping in the U.S. with more than 100 million products sold during 2018’s Prime Day."

"It’s also growing in terms of length having steadily gone from 24 hours of savings to 30 hours, then 36 hours, and now a full 48 hours of epic deals. Leave it to Amazon to figure out how to double the hours in a day!"

National Be Nice Day, and National Do Something Nice Day Monday, October 5th

Actually, this SHOULD be every day!!  But, maybe today you can be nice to everyone (even your grouchy neighbor!!)

National Coaches Day - Tuesday, October 6th

I think a lot of my readers have been coaches (or mentors, or teachers) at some point in their lives.

“The lessons learned in athletic competition translate perfectly to all aspects of life. That’s because nearly all of the traits we associate as “positive” in other people play a crucial role in sports as well. Confidence. Communication. Teamwork. We won’t succeed on the field, in the office, or at home without them.”

National Transfer Money to your Daughter Day - Tuesday, October 6th

(Hmm, I think this day must have been invented by a daughter who needed money.  It is about half-way through a college semester and she found that college life can be expensive!!!)

National Depression Screening Day - Thursday, October 8th

The listing says, “Roughly 40 million adults in the U.S. struggle with depression or anxiety. Not to mention the family, friends, and coworkers that are also impacted. National Depression Screening Day is held annually on October 8. It’s important for many reasons. First, it can help people make an informed diagnosis. It also drags depression out of the darkness. And perhaps most important, it can bring help to those that need it.”

(From me), Depression is not fun.  We don’t feel we have value to anybody, not even ourselves.  If you are depressed - get help!!  If you know of somebody who is depressed - go out of your way to help them!!  (And, not just today!!)

And, Next Sunday, October 11,

National Coming Out Day

We are all made in the image and likeness of God.  Somehow some have different gender identifications and sexual identifications.  Be nice to all people!!

Answers:

-1 The World Headquarters was originally on a dead-end road (that is, there was only one way to get to the World Headquarters building).  The new site - is farther down that same dead-end road - so everybody’s commute became longer!!

-2 A+B > C + D

A +C = B + D

2A = B +D (doubling that A is ½ of (B + D)

Solving that last equation for B, you get B =  2A -  D

Substituting that in the second equation you have:

A + C = (2A - D) + D

That becomes A + C = 2A

Subtract A, you get C = A (or A = C)

From the first inequality - A + B > C + D - we know now that A = C - so subtracting those from both sides you get B > D, so Becky makes the most!!!
